State Senator Kevin S. Parker has served the 21st Senatorial District in Brooklyn since 2002, representing diverse communities including Flatbush, East Flatbush, and Canarsie. A lifelong Brooklyn resident, Senator Parker is dedicated to improving the quality of life for his constituents through public service and community engagement.
His extensive background includes roles as Special Assistant to New York State Comptroller H. Carl McCall, Manhattan Borough President Ruth Messinger, and Assemblyman Nick Perry. Prior to his Senate career, he worked on financing minority and women-owned businesses at the New York State Urban Development Corporation and served in various civic leadership roles, reflecting his deep commitment to his community In the Senate.
Senator Parker has focused on energy, telecommunications, and economic development, currently serving as the Majority Chair of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee. He has participated in prestigious programs, including the Toll Fellowship and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. An advocate for education, Senator Parker taught African-American Studies and Political Science at several colleges, including Brooklyn College, where he served as faculty advisor. He holds a bachelor’s from Penn State and a master’s from the New School for Social Research and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Political Science at CUNY. His dedication to civic and educational initiatives underscores his ongoing commitment to serving his district and beyond.
