Mr. Silver is one of the nation’s leading clean economy investors and advisors. Named one of the country’s top ten green-tech “influencers”, Mr. Silver led both the federal government’s $40 billion clean energy investment fund and its $20 billion fund focused on advanced automotive technology during the Obama Administration.
Mr. Silver and his team underwrote financing for some of the largest, most innovative and most complex energy projects in the country, including a wide range of solar, wind, geothermal, biofuels, fossil, nuclear and advanced automotive technology projects. Under his leadership, agency transactions were twice named “Deal of the Year”, and one was nominated for “Deal of the Decade”, by leading investment publications.
Today, Mr. Silver is the Managing Partner of Tax Equity Advisors LLC, a Registered Investment Advisor that has invested in, and managed, over $400 million in solar power projects on behalf of its Fortune 500 client base.
Mr. Silver is a member of the board of Plug Power (PLUG: NASDAQ), the country’s leading manufacturer of hydrogen fuel cells, and a former member of the boards of energy efficiency company, EEmax, a leading player in the tankless water heating industry and Sol Systems, a clean energy investor and the largest SREC (solar renewable energy credit) aggregator in the US. He is also on the boards of several sector-focused non-profits, Resources For the Future and American Forests, and previously served on the board of the Wind Energy Foundation.
Mr. Silver was the co-founder of Core Capital Partners, a leading venture firm and a Managing Director, and the Chief Operating Officer, of Tiger Management, one of the country’s largest and most successful hedge funds. He has also held senior operating positions (COO, Exec VP) in several media companies. Mr. Silver began his career at McKinsey and Company, the global management consulting firm.
Mr. Silver has served as Senior Advisor to four U.S. Cabinet Secretaries: Energy, Commerce, Interior and Treasury, responsible for policy development across a broad range of issues. His philanthropic activity has included membership on the boards of such organizations as the Federation of American Scientists, the Federal City Council, the Community Foundation of the National Capitol Region and WETA (public television) and he also served as special advisor to the Chancellor of the DC public schools. For several years, Mr. Silver taught the second-year MBA course on entrepreneurship at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
An honors graduate of Harvard University, Mr. Silver did graduate work at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. He speaks French and Spanish and has received both Fulbright and Rotary Graduate Fellowships.
Mr. Silver lives with his wife and two children in Washington, DC.
