Derek Moretz

Derek Moretz is Vice President of Development for PureSky Energy, a community solar and battery storage developer across the US. He leads the team’s origination and development efforts as projects move from concept to NTP. Derek has worked in renewables for a couple decades spanning from utility wind, solar and storage technology, having deployed over 100 projects representing around 2 GW’s. His prior experience was with Recurrent Energy developing bulk scale PV and storage projects but returned to community scale development at PureSky to get DG projects built while the ISO interconnection queues were gridlocked.

He holds degrees in Sustainable Technology and Construction Management from Appalachian State University and an MBA from NC State University and has held leadership roles at Encore Renewable Energy, NaturEner and CMI Energy. His team prides itself on community and channel partnerships, subject matter experts, and working with the in-house customer acquisition and EPC teams. PureSky is a long-term owner/operator of projects with an inherent interest in long term success of its projects, partners and customers. Derek lives in Asheville, NC where he spends his off-time mountain biking or fly fishing in Pisgah Nat’l Forest.
