Sudipto Bhowmik

Sudipto Bhowmik is an accomplished expert in power systems and energy development, currently serving as Director of Transmission and Interconnection at Capital Power Inc.. With over 28 years of industry experience, he specializes in transmission system modeling, grid interconnection strategies, and renewable energy project development across North America and international markets.

Sudipto has led major interconnection risk assessments, managed large-scale transmission analysis, and developed innovative solutions for renewable and thermal power projects in diverse regulatory environments. His leadership roles at companies like ibvEnergy Partners, Burns & McDonnell, and Nexant Inc. have involved managing complex compliance processes, directing multi-region project portfolios, and guiding teams in technical due diligence for energy infrastructure.

He is highly skilled in power system modeling an planning, using advanced simulation tools and programming languages. Sudipto’s expertise extends to smart grid integration, NERC/WECC compliance, economic and financial modeling for utility sectors, and development of specialized software for energy systems.

Sudipto holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineerig, with a major in Electrical Power Systems and a minor in Computer Engineering & Network Security. He has contributed to open-source initiatives, published peer-reviewed research on load frequency control, grid event detection, and power quality, and regularly presents on technical and regulatory topics at industry conferences.

As a thought leader, Sudipto actively participates in industry groups such as NERC IRPTF, WECC, and IEEE PES, and engages with stakeholders to drive better outcomes in transmission development and grid modernization.
