Partner and Co-Head of the Energy, Project Finance & Clean Technologies Practice , KILPATRICK TOWNSEND & STOCKTON LLP
Mr. Edwards is a Partner and Co-Head of the Energy, Project Finance & Clean Technologies Practice of the law firm Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP. In this role Mr. Edwards collaborates with clients and across Kilpatrick Townsend to bring innovative legal and commercial structuring and financing solutions to technology companies across the clean and renewable energy sectors. Prior to joining Kilpatrick Townsend, Mr. Edwards was a banker with the JP Morgan Global Commodities Group where he worked with clients on project financings and structured financings in the oil, natural gas and power sectors. He also advised the Senior Management Team on the trajectory and implications of Obama Administration Energy Policies.
Prior to joining JP Morgan, Mr. Edwards was a Senior Presidential Appointee at the U.S. Department of Energy. As Deputy General Counsel for Energy Policy from 2009-2011, he was part of the senior DOE team leading the $35 billion deployment of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds into the clean energy economy.
During his legal career Mr. Edwards has served as lead counsel on more than $10 billion in energy, infrastructure and auto industry project financings. He has represented utilities, independent power producers, and investors in acquisition and divestiture of domestic and international energy projects. He is experienced in domestic and international renewable energy projects, and emerging issues relating to climate change and renewable energy policies in the U.S. and abroad. He has advised utility clients on developing strategies for compliance with state mandated renewable portfolio standards.
Mr. Edwards graduated from Harvard University with an AB, magna cum laude in economics. He received his JD from Stanford Law School and MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Mr. Edwards is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and The Bretton Woods Committee.
